Gambia to ban Female Genital Mutilation

The Gambia has announced it will ban female genital mutilation (FGM) after the Guardian launched a global campaign to end the practice.
FGM involves cutting female genitalia – often when girls are young – to remove their labia and clitoris, which often leads to lifelong health complications, including bleeding, infections, vaginal pain and infertility.

Happily Ever After

Like the fairy tale, happily ever after can be real in marriages if only spouses work towards it. It takes works to achieve this fantasy term called happily ever after. I see many people fantasize of marriage and when they get in they turn blue, I have also seen people rush into marriages with their eyes closed and after a few years their eyes are forced open with the ugly reality of who their spouses are, I have also seen couples go into marriage with all sorts of intentions and wishful thinking.

The Good Wife...Part 1

The Bible calls her a virtuous woman. She is a lot of things an embodiment of love, a center point where the cycle of life starts and ends. You see I was going through how the Bible describes her and I was perplexed……..I asked myself, who is this woman? Has anyone been like her? Would anyone ever be like her? I’m I close to being the woman that God wants me to be in my marriage? Rhetorical questions you would say those are, but it kept me wondering.

Forbes.com Argues it out.....Careers and Marriage

DON’T MARRY CAREER WOMEN DON’T MARRY A LAZY MAN

By Michael Noer By Elizabeth Corcoran

Guys: a word of advice. Marry pretty women or ugly ones. Short ones or tall ones. Blondes or brunettes. Just, whatever you do, don’t marry a woman with a career. Girlfriends: a word of advice. Ask your man the following question: When was the last time you learned something useful, either at home or work?

(NEWS) ALICIA KEYS SURGES A RALLY IN NYC. 'Bring Back Our Girls'

Six months on since more than 200 Nigerian schoolgirls were kidnapped, Alicia Keys is bringing their plight back into the public arena. The singer-songwriter held a protest in New York to raise awareness about the 219 Nigerian schoolgirls who remain missing after being kidnapped by Boko Haram militants in April.

Alicia kicked off a protest with 30 others at the consulate general of Nigeria, holding signs that read "We Are Here" and "Safe Schools Now!"
They chanted "bring back our girls" as New Yorkers walked up the street during lunch hour, while others stopped to capture photos and video.
Keys, who is pregnant, said in an interview that she felt touched to take action since she is a mother. Her son, Egypt, turned four few days ago .Keys was joined at the protest by her husband, producer-rapper Swizz Beatz.
The parents and other relatives of the missing 219 school girls complain that they have been left to rely on a diet of rumor from the media and a long list of unfulfilled promises from the politicians, BBC reported.

"The government must do more to get the girls back," says Muhammad Yahaya, whose teenage daughter Yana was seized from the school by Boko Haram militants.

A TRINITY: THE WOMAN, HER FAMILY, HER CAREER

Mimi wakes up at 5:30am every morning in an activity packed region like Lagos, prepares breakfast for her children and gets them ready for school, gets set for work, hits the bustling busy roads of Lagos at about 6:30am.
On a lucky day, she drives smoothly through a partially busy road and arrives at work at 7:30am. But on a regular day, she spends about two to three hours in Lagos crazy traffic.

She gets to work exhausted but of course has a deliverable and so has to put both hands on deck to achieve these. Alas it is 6pm and its time to go home. As she drives she mentally processes her change of job from banker to mother, wife and home maker. She thinks " what do I cook tonight?, what is available in the kitchen?, Do I have to go to the market on my way home?, ooh, Sapphire and George would have assignments from school, Honey asked for some cuddling this morning, he might be up for it tonight. At 7:30pm, she gets home and job description changes.

Millions of other women live the same kind of hectic lifestyle. They're scrambling to run two lives—one at home and one at work. They want to be good wives and mothers, but they also want to be intellectually stimulated by a challenging career or at least bring in a second income to help their households get by. This lifestyle for some is full and exciting while for some other overwhelming

Over the years, women have been told that they cannot have it all. They have been told that they cannot efficiently handle a career and a family. We continue to cry of the inadequate representation of women in business, politics and other position of power but in truth, there are much more.

Should a woman's career suffer simply because she has a family to cater for?, or should she neglect her family to face her career?. Isn't a woman allowed to live her dreams? or is she better dreaming?
Questions on my mind...........

QUOTE IT: “If men could see us as we really are, they would be a little amazed; but the cleverest, the acutest men are often under an illusion about women: they do not read them in a true light: they misapprehend them, both for good and evil: their good woman is a queer thing, half doll, half angel; their bad woman almost always a fiend.” - Charlotte Bronte.

Just Saying

Just saying.........
What the heart wants
What it desires
What it carries

Like an ocean raging wild, it is insatiable
The heart in constant struggle with its maker
Lust, love, hate in bollix
Late to satisfy its desire
Drawn in a thorn of the known and unknown
Secrets built from a hidden candy to a stolen sacred onyx
What do you want
Yes, you, heart
Can you ever hit the bottom?
Just saying.........

QUOTE IT: “Don't confuse poor decision-making with destiny. Own your mistakes. It’s ok; we all make them. Learn from them so they can empower you!” - Steve Maraboli.
